Goodreads website redesign

The aim of this project was to redesign the interface of Goodreads to create a cleaner, more modern, and engaging experience for readers. The focus was on improving usability, visual hierarchy, and content personalization.
Outdated UIÂ with a cluttered layout
Text-heavy interface with minimal visual anchors
Lack of personalization – the platform felt static and impersonal
Poorly structured recommendations – difficult to explore or trust
UX research and competitor analysis
Wireframing and visual design
Creating high-fidelity mockups using Figma and Photoshop
Redesigning user flows and layout systems
New user dashboard displaying stats like reading hours, books read this month, and goal progress
Redesigned recommendations section with visual cards, star ratings, and clear CTAs
Recently Viewed carousel for easy access to past book interactions
Simplified sidebar navigation for quick access to shelves, reading lists, and activities
Responsive layout with a modern visual language, clear typography, and consistent components
The redesign is grounded in these UX principles:
Visual hierarchy – clear prioritization of content
Consistency – uniform UI elements across the platform
Engagement – giving users a sense of progress, achievement, and interaction
